| Final Days of City Limits |
[08 Jul 2009|08:37pm] |
What to Expect
THIS FRIDAY and SATURDAY...
A post from the NPC journal will detail the formation of a mysterious energy disturbance over Lake Michigan after sunset. It will be highly visible, white, and look electrical in nature. News stations will cover it. People (meaning ours and others) will flock to the beach to watch from the shoreline. You could expect feelings of curiosity, fascination, fear, excitement, or panic, especially as it begins to grow. No one will know what it is, but given Chicago's history, thinking it's an apocalyptic event would be reasonable.
Our characters can jump in this group thread. At the end, the disturbance will reach a sort of breaking point and thread will end in a massive white-out as a shock wave explodes from it and rushes over everyone. Fade out.
DURING THE FADE-OUT, BUT OFF CAMERA...
Characters who have been involved in the white hat/gray hat/black hat struggle will be rewarded for taking their part in the greater cosmic purpose of the balance. If you choose to accept this for your character, they can have their greatest subconscious wish, provided that it doesn't interfere with the free will of another being, affect other characters without permission, or alter the past. These might be wishes your characters didn't consciously know they had. Ultimately, it's up to you as the writer if your character will get this wish.
THIS SATURDAY to NEXT WEEKEND...
We'll leave City Limits open for epilogue posts (and any others you didn't finish before the white-out, just label them as taking place before it). Your epilogues can detail the results of the wish, or simply show your characters' fates in future settings (you choose how 'future' you want to go).
We eagerly await reading what happens to your characters!!!

| Simplified End-of-City Limits Timeline |
[19 Jun 2009|08:30pm] |
Friday, July 10th - Group Thread & White-Out (followed by epilogues) Sunday, July 12th - Epilogues End
(Basically, we're doing away with the build-up to the portal craziness and just having it happen on one day. See below for details. You can use the next two weeks to write whatever you'd like! E suggests sex and death *wink*)
From Monday, June 22nd until Friday, July 10th, feel free to post your characters as usual (wrapping up loose ends, etc.). On that final Friday, a mysterious energy disturbance will appear over Lake Michigan (white, shimmering; it's the Chicago portal). It can be seen by the naked eye and will be commented upon by media outlets, etc. Whatever it is, it is large enough 'bleed' into other dimensions (heavenly and hellish) and play havoc with them, too. Characters will suspect that it's an apocalyptic event and will gather on the beach as it grows in size and magnitude (this will be a thread). Eventually, there will be a shock wave and then a 'fade to white'.
What happens during the 'white-out'? Off-camera, each character will be consulted by the Powers That Be. They will be informed that they've played their cosmic role (whatever it was meant to be) and are to be rewarded. The reward will be a subconscious wish of the character's (i.e. to change their state of being, or to have material things, or whatever they want, as long as it doesn't impede another soul's free will or alter the past). For example, Buffy Summers might subconsciously wish to be released from her obligations as a Slayer. She'd be granted that wish (she might not even realize she wanted it).

| AU Conclusion Details |
[18 Jun 2009|08:53pm] |
AU FINAL PHASE: THREAD
Details... *Friday, June 19th to Sunday, June 22nd. *E will post an NPC thread, which we can thread on.
Fugitive Info... *Off-camera, Francess will use astral projection to see the Inquisitor warehouse and what's going on there (guards, the signal, etc.). *The fugitives will raid a sporting goods store and steal small weapons (knives, hunting bows, perhaps a few firearms). *They will surround the Inquisition's warehouse.
Inquisitor Info... *All the Inquisitors will be in the warehouse, preparing to send the signal (final preparations) *The communication device is about the size of a refrigerator, a large 'steampunkish'-styled wooden box with brass and electronic workings. It has a dial they'll turn to try and send a communications signal to particular coordinates.
During the Thread... *Fugitives get on the roof and attack through the high windows. *Big old fight. Mass casualties. *Communication device is shot up and or banged up, which causes it to short out and explode before the signal is sent. *Something will convince the squad leader to call his team to stand down. *The wrist-mounted portal devices will be used to send the surviving Inquisitors back to their world (first, they will be altered so as not to keep the coordinates of our Earth, once they're home). *The surviving Fugitives will use some of the left over portal devices to send themselves elsewhere.
Who's Participating? *Please comment if your characters (AU or regular) are in! If regular characters, please state which side they're on.

| City Limits Moderator Announcement |
[16 Jun 2009|09:34pm] |
Dear Friends,
Over the past week, we've conducted an informal poll asking many writers about their continued enjoyment of City Limits and creative inspiration for the setting. Most told us they adore their fellow writers and their characters, but the drive to continue writing in our Buffy-verse is dwindling. Even at present, with creative wells running dry, the forum enjoys more posting activity than many other games and is very successful. We keep our fingers on the pulse of the game, however, and we know there's uncharacteristic apathy. That, combined with an inability to attract new members to a long-established forum, has led us to conclude that it should be brought to an end, rather than dwindling away. It's with bittersweet feelings that we announce the conclusion of City Limits on July 10, 2009 (the 5 year anniversary of Birthright's beginning).
For those of us continuing together in Victorian Nocturne, we look forward to our newest writing adventure, which has attracted several new faces already (and let us assure you... they're chomping at our heels the bit to get started). For those who'll part from us and go in other creative directions, we hope you'll always keep in touch and we wish you fantastic luck in your writing endeavors. For details on the plot conclusion, see below.
With great love, Kate and Eric

Important Dates: Sunday, June 21st - Inquisition Plot Ends Friday, July 10th - Group Thread & White-Out (followed by epilogues) Sunday, July 12th - Epilogues End
On Monday, June 22nd, a mysterious energy disturbance will appear over Lake Michigan (white, shimmering; it's the Chicago portal). It can be seen by the naked eye and will be commented upon by media outlets, etc. Whatever it is, it is large enough to start 'bleeding' into other dimensions (heavenly and hellish) and playing havoc with them, too. Characters will begin to suspect that it's an apocalyptic event in the making, but have no way to predict its effects (even characters like Elfleda will have no clue about the consequences). A spirit of 'the end is nigh (maybe)' will descend over people. On July 10th, the portal begins to grow in size and magnitude, and people gather on the beach to witness it (a front row seat to the end of the world). There will be a shock wave and then a 'fade to white'.
This 'offer' will be open to all characters of City Limits and Birthright. All of that will be assumed to happen 'off camera'. We'll post character epilogues (solos or scenes) after the white-out.
If you have questions about what's allowed, please contact E or Kate.
Note: If you have certain ideas for how you wanted your character's storyline to end (ex. being sired), you're free to pursue this prior to the white-out or in your epilogue. The two weeks building up to the end can be spent writing your character's proper endings.
******
[If enough writers decide they want to stay in City Limits or do a spin-off, this plan will be revoked. Those writers who choose to leave will simply write out their characters. Please see a moderator by email or IM if you'd like to continue on in the City Limits universe, like Dew, Claire, and Stargazer.]

| Inquisition Plot Updates |
[16 Jun 2009|11:21am] |
IN PROGRESS - Phase 3 The Fugitives realize they can't run forever and this is their chance to fight back against the oppression which led them here. The Inquisition realize how difficult it will be to track down the Fugitives and off them without help. Both groups seek our characters' help. The Fugitives say that Earth as our characters know it will be in danger from the Inquisition if they don't beat them. The Inquisition tell our characters that the Fugitives are dangerous and that they're willing to come back to our Earth with helpful technology to eradicate demons if our characters help.
Through witnessing confrontations, our regular characters pick sides.
HAPPENING TODAY There shall be an AU Sonya post! The Fugitives (afterwards) will get wind that the Inquisition is preparing to send a signal to AU Earth for reinforcements, and decide to attack. The Inquisition (after Sonya escaped with the intel) knows they're compromised and must immediately send the signal.
FINAL PHASE: THREAD Holy crap, that's this weekend! Runs Friday, June 19th to Sunday, June 22nd. The Fugitives (with regular characters supporting) launch an attack on the Inquisition (who may have regular characters helping them w/ the signal). There's a major confrontation. Signal is stopped. Equipment is trashed. Major casualities on both sides. Inquisition loses. Fugitives send Inquisitors back with sabotaged wrist devices, so they can't come back to our Earth. The Fugitives use the small portal devices of killed Inquisitors to send themselves to another dimension.

| AU Inquisition Plot Updates and Timeline |
[05 Jun 2009|06:37pm] |
This has been edited for simplicity!!! Please read.
IN PROGRESS - Phase 2: Members of both groups will begin to meet our regular characters. It will initially look like the Fugitives are 'bad' guys (they'll look dodgier). The sophisticated (and uniformed) Inquisitors will look like 'good' guys, since they've got their acts together and are human, and only want to rid the world of what's detrimental.

| Inquisition Plot Update |
[31 May 2009|11:50am] |
Timeline: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/city_limits_ooc/140741.html
Phase 1, Continued You can feel free to continue in the original arrival threads, or break into scenes of the Inquisitors and Fugitives fanning out and checking out the location. The Inquisitors are setting up shop in a warehouse, just to the southwest of the Lincoln Park area. The Fugitives have set up shop in an empty house in Lincoln Park.
Phase 2: Begins Monday, June 1 More of the above, plus members of both groups will begin to meet our regular characters. It will initially look like the Fugitives are bad guys (they'll look dodgier, some of them are demonic). The sophisticated (and uniformed) Inquisitors will look like 'good' guys, since they've got their acts together and are human, and only want to rid the world of what's detrimental.

| Group Plot: The Inquisition (starts FRIDAY - tomorrow) |
[28 May 2009|01:59pm] |
Your Ongoing Source for Full-Plot Details and Timeline: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/city_limits_ooc/140741.html
Phase 1: Begins Friday, May 29 Prologue: An attack is underway on AU-Earth. A squad of Inquisitors raid a Fugitive hide-out. In a last-ditch effort to escape, the Fugitives use a large-scale, 'crude' portal generator to leave their dimension and leap into another (ours). In the process, the machine is destroyed. The Inquisitors use small, individual portal devices (on their wrists) to tune into the location and quickly follow (once the 'energy signature' is gone, they won't be able to pin down the location). They must find the enemy and 'purge them of supernatural taint' or kill them. The groups arrive in Chicago simultaneously, but in different locations. They are aware of one another's presence. They split up to do surveys of the surrounding area
Thread Details: E will do 2 NPC posts. One will be a narrative of the above things happening from the Fugitive perspective. The other will be a narrative from the Inquisitor perspective. These 2 posts will be threads for our AU characters!
The part YOU write begins as they arrive in Chicago. Feel free to narrate your Fugitives looking for a safe hiding place (in a large group or smaller ones) and your Inquisitors coming up with a strategy for setting up a base of operations and hunting down Fugitives for capturing or killing (in a large group or smaller ones). Note: The 'purging' can only be done in the AU world.
These threads can last through Sunday.
Phase 2: Phase 2: Begins Monday, June 1 Members of both groups will begin to meet regular characters. It will initially look like the Fugitives are 'bad' guys (they'll look dodgier, and most are supernatural). The sophisticated (and uniformed) Inquisitors will look like 'good' guys, since they've got their acts together and are human, and only want to rid the world of what's detrimental. In truth, it's a smidge of both.
Other Important Things Fugitive Leadership: The Fugitives are loosely banded-together allies. More leader-y personalities may emerge in the plot, but there is no designated leader.
Inquisitor Leadership: This squad has a 'squad leader', which will be Hayden (he's male, he's human, he's gentlemanly, and his writer knows the plot details... aka convenience). Kate swears up-and-down this isn't going to be control-y. It'll mainly come into play in group threads, when someone needs to shout things like 'fall back!' and 'survey the area!' :)
There is a Slayer in the Inquisition. Her name is Bethany! In the Slayer's case, the Inquisition has made an exception and doesn't consider her a supernatural threat, since she's sworn to protect humanity against demons, etc. and can detect them.

| Laying Down the Law |
[21 May 2009|12:30pm] |
We're still getting complaints about writers beginning scenes and then,
a) not tagging in a timely fashion, b) not communicating necessary delays to their writing partners.
Here's the deal. If you're not finishing your scenes, and not communicating reasonable explanations for why,
1) Definite- No new character applications until you demonstrate you can juggle it, 2) Possible- Moderator request to reduce your characters, 3) Possible- Restriction on playing in the group plots.
We aren't kicking anybody out. We don't want to punish people for real-life priorities. We love you! We understand that shit hits the fan, and that's okay. We're just glad you spend your time with us. But the truth is, if you can't keep up, and you're not doing a good job of informing your fellow writers, the best thing to do is scale back until life gets more manageable. And if you find yourself uninspired by a scene, just tell the other writer!
Questions? See a mod.

The AU Inquisition Plot for City Limits We've got it planned for June. The exact dates are up in the air. It's unlikely we'll find a 2-week span that suits every writer. We'll go with a majority rule. Therefore, it's very important that if you have time constraints (we know RJ and Willow do), you inform us in a journal comment (see our previous post on this topic and add it there).
That Other Project The moderators of Stakes and Daggers Victorian Nocturne won't open the game until after the AU Inquisition plot completes in City Limits. They may, however, start taking applications soon, from anyone who's interested. The mods want to stress that no one will be frowned upon if they don't apply. It's a side project. http://birthrightrpg.wetpaint.com/page/Victorian+Nocturne

| Under Construction |
[13 May 2009|10:58pm] |
Greetings, lovelies! If you surf onto the Wetpaint resource page, you will notice a few pages have moved around. That's because the site's under construction. It previously held information for City Limits and Birthright. Now, a third section has been added for a side project called 'Stakes and Daggers' that E and Kate are working on. If you're curious about it, feel free to flip through the preliminary information, which is a work in progress. If you do, you'll notice similarities to the upcoming Inquisition plot and some huge differences.
We wish to make clear that Stakes and Daggers is a side project of E's and Kate's. It's not a replacement for City Limits, not officially affiliated with it, not Whedonverse, and not open yet. Casting begins in 2035. Maybe.
Much love,
The Great and Powerful Us

| Inquisition Plot |
[08 May 2009|12:02pm] |
Hey! There's been a LOT of interest in the Inquisition plot. We're excited! We can't wait to write it.
A slight moderator request...
Everyone we've spoken to about character ideas mentioned wanting to write Inquisitors (either humans as inquisitors or 'purged' demons as inquisitors). That's great, but we've had ZERO people mention being Fugitives.
We'll definitely need some of those, too. Please. :)
Remember, Fugitives are Victorian-style outlaws. They can be: *Current supernatural characters, *Current human characters who have been 'turned' into demons in the AU, *Maybe a few human sympathizers
What can we do to make being a Fugitive more attractive to write?
